Conservation and Evolutionary Biologist

Welcome to my website! I am a conservation and evolutionary biologist. My general research aims are to understand the effects of the environment on the distribution of species and the responses of organisms to environmental change by using ecological and genomic approaches. I also have broad interests in conservation management and science communication.

Currently I am working as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Centre for Sustainable Tropical Fisheries and Aquaculture at James Cook University.

We have two projects available in our lab for excellent honours students on the 1) impact of fisheries on genetic diversity and effective population sizes of lobsters and 2) population genomics of the South African West Coast rock lobster. Please contact me or Jan Strugnell if you are interested. In your email, please include a description of your interests and how they fit into our lab along with a CV.

Students interested in other projects related to our research areas are also encouraged to apply. Check out James Cook University website for possible internal and externally funded research scholarships. If you are interested, please get in touch to discuss possibilities!

The opinions expressed in these pages are purely and personally those of myself, Catarina.
